A: Physiotherapists treat muscle and joint injuries (musculoskeletal) through manual therapy, movement, exercise, education, and the use of modalities (such as muscle stim, TENS, interferential current therapy, and therapeutic ultrasound).

A: In Ontario, the practice of chiropractic is defined as the assessment of conditions related to the spine, nervous system, and joints; and the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, primarily by adjustment, of dysfunctions or disorders arising from the spine; and dysfunctions or disorders arising from the joints.  Our goal is to restore normal motion & function and to relieve pain.

A: Chiropractors are absolutely real doctors!  Chiropractors are regulated under provincial statute in every province which grants us the right to use the title “Doctor.”  In Ontario, there are only 4 other health care professions allowed to also use the title doctor (medicine, dentistry, optometry, and psychology).

A: An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand to a joint of the body. Adjustment loosens the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function.

When a joint is adjusted, a gas bubble escapes causing the popping noise you may have heard about.

Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively. Complications are rare and side-effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor. Your chiropractor is well-trained to determine if your problem will respond to chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider

A:Absolutely. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe for both mother and fetus. Spinal adjustments are especially gentle during pregnancy as far less force is required to correct dysfunction. This is due to the increase in hormones that cause significant muscle and ligament relaxation. Particular adjustive positions are also used to provide comfort and safety for both mom and fetus.  By correcting dysfunction, we can help optimize the function of your spine and nervous system to provide a sound foundation for a healthy pregnancy. Other Chiropractic benefits have been noted as well, and our care may help:

  • Provide pain relief
  • Control morning sickness
  • Shorten & ease deliveries

A: No – acupuncture doesn’t have to hurt. It is not like getting a shot at the doctor’s office. Acupuncture needles are much, much thinner than a hypodermic needle. Usually patients feel little or nothing when the needle goes in. You may occasionally feel a slight pinch when the needle goes in, which dissipates quickly. If a needle is uncomfortable, we will adjust it or take it out! Our friend Nora says, and we agree: Suffering is not part of the treatment.

A: Yes, we use disposable needles. They come to us sterilized, we use them once, and then we dispose of them in an approved Sharps container.

A: During your first visit with a Registered Massage Therapist, your health history form and initial assessments will take place. After filling out the health history form, your Therapist will ask questions and possibly perform physical or movement tests to help determine which areas need treatment. You and your Therapist will discuss a treatment plan, and then you will be left alone in the room for a few minutes to get yourself ready and on the table. After the Massage portion you may be shown exercises or activities designed to help alleviate your problem areas. Then you and your Therapist will determine a treatment plan for follow-up treatments if they are necessary. For you to get the most out of your massage it is important that you be comfortable and relaxed during the treatment. We have clean sheets on our tables to cover you and only expose the areas that we are working on. You may undress to your level of comfort. Massage Therapy is a hands-on type of therapy and it is common to use oil to help facilitate the gliding of the Therapist’s hands so it is easier to work directly on the skin.
